    Le Bétés

    Bété, bétés

    Histoire

The Bétés are a people living in the central-western part of Côte d'Ivoire, particularly in the regions of Gagnoa, Ouaragahio, Soubré, Buyo, Issia, Saïoua, Daloa and Guibéroua, in what is known as the "loop of cocoa". They represent about 18% of the country's population, making them the country's second largest ethnic group after the Baoule. Belonging to the Krous cultural group comprising the Wés and the Didas, the reasons for the migration of the Bétés remain unknown.
